This lovely apartment is located in a beautiful, 19th century building. While keeping its 19th century charm with exposed beams, it's equipped with all of the modern conveniences necessary for a pleasant stay in Paris. Situated on the left bank of the Seine River, south of the Latin Quarter and north of the Place d'Italie, Gobelin area is a residential section of Paris; home to many of the brightest students from the nearby Universities of Paris. The neighborhood and an interesting history. The Gobelin Tapestry Manufacturing plant was constructed over 600 years ago. When the famous cloth dyer, Jean Gobelin first moved here, it was nothing more than a small, rural valley on the banks of the Bièvre. The industry developed quickly and the Royal Furniture and Upholstery Factory was created in 1667. The name Gobelin became famous throughout Europe in the 18th century. The building is now managed by the French government. Nearby Monuments: Transport: Click on image to view at full size |
